Research and development efforts of BASF are stimulated by the future energy demand of our society. Thus we investigate and evaluate energy storage systems for mobile and stationary applications.

BASF develops products for the battery industry with its knowledge and experience in chemicals and materials. Our research activities are focused on the development of new materials for improved lithium ion battery performance. Currently, we are focusing on the development of next generation cathode materials and high performance electrolyte systems.

The first part of the talk will give an overview on BASF’s growing activities in the field of lithium ion battery materials. The second part will concentrate on lithium ion battery electrolytes with a special focus on electrolyte and electrolyte additives for high voltage cathodes.
