To improve the electrochemical performance of Sn anode, a Cu film with high surface area is used as substrate material. To improve the electrochemical performance of this nanostructured Sn anode, a catalytic material is applied as top coat on the Sn film. The bare and the coated Sn films are tested galvanostatically in half cells with C/12 rate in voltage ranges of 0.2-1.2V. To understand differentiation in their performances, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy are applied on these samples. The results show that the combination of high surface area and catalytic top coating point to a new approach to improve the long term cycleability and high capacity performance of LIB anodes.
