In this presentation I will discuss a number of strategies to control backbone planarity in conjugated polymers. I will show how the control of backbone planarity influences solid state microstructure, as well as the optoelectronic properties. The influence of backbone planarity of transistor performance in a number of different device geometries will be reported.
