LVO(LiV3O8) cathode coated with alumina(Al2O3) and carbon composite is successfully synthesized via sol-gel method process. Al2O3/C composite was expected to enhance the electrical conductivity and mechanical strength of LVO. To analyze the effect of Al2O3/C, coating depths with different thickness were investigated controlling the concentration of precursor. The interfacial characteristics were examined by SEM, EDS, TEM, and XPS. The cell with the concentration of 2wt.% Al2O3/C showed the best electrochemical performance. And the initial discharge capacity of the cell with 2wt.% Al2O3/C-coated LVO cathode was 280 mAh g-1 at 0.2 C-rate. The capacity retention and structural stability of Al2O3/C coated LVO was higher than pristine LVO after 100th cycle. Additionally, the rate capability test was conducted also showing the enhanced stability on each cycles attributed by Al2O3/C composite coating. From the results above, it can be concluded that the Al2O3/C composite coating on LVO can improve the electrochemical performance of LVO.
