We propose a radically new approach to the architectural design of batteries. The invention is a new geometry that replaces conventional cell and module designs and significantly reduces the weight, volume and cost of non-active materials, while increasing the thermal performance. The new battery relies on an innovative architecture called an S-cell. The proposed cell geometry may increase the energy per cost or weight by a factor of 2, by significanlty reducing the manufacturing cost and by enabling high capacity electrode materials.
