(Invited) Modeling of and Novel Approaches to Water Management in Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells

This lecture will discuss profound importance of water and thermal management in polymer electrolyte fuel cells. The science of water management in fuel cells will be scrutinized in two aspects: macroscopic phenomena and microscopic interfacial phenomena [1-4]. We shall review current advances in fundamental understanding and development of modeling tools for various length scales, as schematically summarized in Figure 1. In addition, we will discuss novel approaches to water management that have emerged most recently.
