Nanobiosensors applications are among the most promising commercial products developments involving nanotechnology. It was predicted that in 2017[i], the global market for biosensors in medical diagnostics would reach US$16.5 billion. Various entities working on new product developments focus on health, food, water, pharmaceuticals, industrial, and environmental monitoring. Nanobiosensors which are robust, sensitive, inexpensive, and have ultra-low limits of detection are revolutionizing the various areas of sensing with advances beyond conventional science and technology. The preliminary developments of nanobiosensor platforms that are potentially applicable across all fields of science, engineering, technology, and medicine will be presented. The unique attributes of nanobiosensors for healthcare and environmental applications that harness the unique properties and attributes of nanomaterials will be discussed.
