Electroreductive Free Radical Coupling from Xanthates Derived from Acetophenones, New Route to 1,4-Dicarbonyl Compounds

In this contribution it is shown the synthesis of 1,4 dicarbonyl compounds from the electrochemical reduction of xanthates via a free radical coupling reaction. These starting materials are cheap and accessible. Electrosynthesis reaction is carried out in green chemistry conditions with excellent yields, which let to propose the route to be used as building blocks of more complex molecules or materials.
