Natural silk-derived, graphene-like carbon fiber (GF) assisted by K intercalation shows high catalytic activity for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The enhancement in ORR activity results from the formation of a porous structure composed of nitrogen-containing graphene, which not only increases the specific surface area but also leads to more active nitrogen species within the carbon network being exposed to the electrolyte.
