(Invited) Trans-Substituted Benzodiazaporphyrin, a Hybrid Dye Between Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines, Opens Promising Performances in Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

Porphyrinoid derivatives such as porphyrin and phthalocyanine have been thoroughly investigated as light collectors for photovoltaic applications, namely in dye-sensitized and organic solar cells. Benzo diazaporphyrins can be considered as hybrid dyes between porphyrins and phthalocyanines. The two interesting and valuable features of benzodiazaporphyrins is first, the presence of an intense and long wavelength absorption band like phthalocyanines, and the possibility to envision the preparation of push-pull or quadrupolar systems by trans functionalization of the two adjacent carbon meso positions. In this communication we present the synthesis and the promising photovoltaic properties of trans-substituted benzodiazaporphyrin in dye sensitized solar cells.
