Benzoporphyrins have been investigated for use in a variety of applications such as dye-sensitized solar cells, photodynamic therapy and organic electronic materials1. A2B2 type porphyrins are known to exhibit non-linear optical properties2. However, there are no reports in literature of tetrabenzofused A2B2 porphyrin systems.

In this work we have synthesized novel A2B2 tetrabenzoporphyrins with electron donors on one axis and electron acceptors on the other axis. We also synthesized the corresponding Adibenzoporphyrins for comparison of the optical and electronic properties with the A2B2  tetrabenzoporphyrins.
