Metal oxides are stable and inexpensive as photocatalysts. However, some of metal oxides have relatively large band gap, which limits their ability to absorb sunlight. Other metal oxides have relatively small band gap, allowing for visible-light absorption. However, they still show limited photocatalytic activity. This talk will discuss the major factors that put constraints the separation, migration and lifetime of the photogenerated charge carriers in metal oxides.
