In the past decade, there has been significant progress in improving activity of atomically dispersed MN4 (M=Fe, Co, Mn, etc.) type catalysts for oxygen reduction. However, there is a significant challenge related to its poor durability. In this presentation, we will discuss our recent work on synthesizing highly active MN4 catalysts, understanding their degradation mechanisms. We will present our technical solutions to address the durability challenge.
