Lithium ion batteries represent a remarkable technological and commercial success, due to their lightweight and high energy density. However, to address future energy storage needs, there is a need for further research to understand and address lifetime limiting mechanisms. This presentation will highlight progress achieved via electrochemistry based and coupled methods for in-situ and operando characterization of lithium ion battery systems, spanning multiple material chemistries.
