Development and modification of the existing material for renewable energy field is gaining its significance, however a long way to get commercialization. Metal nitrides having promising redox reactions and catalytic activity finding various application in energy storage and conversion. Here in, we have obtained a very homogeneous mixture of cobalt nitride/carbon composite from ZIF-67 metal organic framework that can be applied in various applications of energy storage and conversion. For the synthesis purpose, two step reaction synthesis method has been used. The obtained sample has been characterized with various characterization techniques including XRD, Raman, FESEM, HRTEM, XPS, and others. The crumpled polyhedron morphology of Co4N/C showed crystalline nature of Co4N with small crystallite size. Furthermore, when employed as a supercapacitor electrode, it delivers the specific capacitance of 320 F/g at the current density of 1 A/g. The excellent electrochemical performance with 92 % capacity retention proves its potential toward the practical application.
