The synthesis of [60]fullerene (C60)-fused furochromenones was recently achieved by the palladium-catalyzed heteroannulation of C60 with 4-hydroxycoumarins. In this talk, I will demonstrate that the representative C60-fused furochromenone can be electrochemically reduced under controlled potential electrolysis (PCE) to generate the corresponding dianionic species. The generated dianionic C60-fused furochromenone are then treated with benzyl bromide, acetic acid and trifluoacetic acid to afford 1,2,3,4- and 1,2,3,16-adducts under different reaction conditions.
