Lithium metal batteries hold the promise for next generation rechargeable batteries. The recent breakthroughs in electrolyte formation, pressure control algorithm and quantitative characterization tools have made this promise closer to reality. In this talk, I will provide an overview of those recent breakthroughs and share a few new perspectives on the surprisingly challenging issues in enabling rechargeable lithium metal batteries.
