Increasing adoption of Li-ion batteries for use in electric vehicles, aviation, and defense applications necessitates the development of chemistries capable of operating under extreme conditions. The current state-of-the-art electrolytes still do not enable high-energy batteries to operate under these extreme conditions. In this talk, we will discuss the electrolyte design principle for high energy batteries. The solid electrolyte interphase and catholyte electrolyte interphase requirements for high energy batteries will also be addressed.
