Increase of the operation voltage of lithium ion batteries (LIB) is one important approach to enhance the energy density. Generally, conventional organic electrolytes based on the carbonate solvents show oxidation at about 4.5 V.

This can lead to severe capacity decay during the charge-discharge cycling. Thus it is significant to suppress decomposition of electrolyte and stabilize the cathode.

Here we investigated fluorinated carbonate solvent as an additive for high-voltage performance of LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2 cathode LiB. The effects of additive content and electrochemical performances of the LIB were studied.
