Ceres Power’s unique SteelCell low temperature metal-supported SOFC technology has demonstrated best-in-class robustness to cyclic operation, along with efficiency comparable with more conventional SOFC technology, and intrinsically low cost at the 1kWe scale.

There is also considerable work being undertaken to develop SteelCell technology to be used for higher power applications. Multiple development streams are being pursued to achieve the objectives of high efficiency (60%) and long life needed for prime power applications. This paper will discuss the progress being made to demonstrate the improvements to the fuel cell design to enhance efficiency, life, volumetric power density and fuel utilisation consistent with the requirements of larger power generation units.
