Nano sized Al-substituted alpha nickel hydroxide was obtained through a novel method with ultra-high concentration of precursors. The effects of Al addition within 10-30 % on the interslab distance of the (001) distance as well as on the stability in basic electrolyte were investigated. Agglomerated nano alpha nickel hydroxide particles were prepared by adjusting the pH value and temperature in nano alpha nickel hydroxide slurry. Pasted agglomerated alpha and commercial beta nickel hydroxide electrodes were fabricated to collect the electrochemical data. Therefore, the results showed the agglomerated alpha nickel hydroxide electrode had higher specific capacity but lower value of volumetric energy density compared to commercial beta nickel hydroxide electrode.
