We will discuss the results of ab initio simulations of the interfacial properties of water and aqueous electrolyes with insulating and semiconducting electrodes. These simulations are carried out with methods borrowed from condensed matter physics and adapted to tackle complex electrochemical processes. The challenges associated with comparisons with experiments will be addressed as well.
