This seminar will discuss our recent efforts on self-assembling multi-chromophore containing nanoarchitectures. The emphasis will be on the supramolecular chemistry and photophysical properties of porphyrin-containing host-guest assemblies and materials wherein the porphyrin units are (a) assembled in competitive aqueous media and (b) do not undergo pi-pi aggregation. The first portion of the talk will discuss the construction and photonic properties of multi-porphyrin containing wires, spheres, and films that are assembled through cyclodextrin-driven host-guest chemistry. The second portion of the talk will discuss our recent efforts to expand the scope of multi-chromophore architectures by utilizing cucurbituril derived encapsulation as well as using the self-assembly properties of synthetic oligonucleotides.
