(Invited) Chemical Isolation of Less Common Metallofullerenes

To date, efforts to chemically purify metallofullerenes have focused primarily on the dominant endohedral species, e.g., M3N@C80. These metallic nitride clusters trapped inside C80 cages often represent the more abundant metallofullerenes in soot extract. We have made progress with chemically isolating di-metal (M2@C82) and metal carbide (M2C2@C80, M3C2@C80, M4C2@C80) metallofullerenes. Other less common endohedrals that we are chemically purifying include M3N@C68, M3N@C78, M3N@C88, and M3N@C92. In this presentation, we will discuss our recent results to chemically isolate these less-common metallofullerenes.
