CuTCNQ is a novel high capacity electrode material with three electrons transfer reaction. The main challenge of its practical application is the dissolution of the intermediate , which is similiar to the sulfur cathode in Li-S batteries. Here, we utilize graphene oxide (GO) coated separator to trap the dissolved aromatic active mateirals through charge transfer reaction by π-π interaction. Consequently, the CuTCNQ battery with GO separator is able to achieve a capacity of 252. mAh g-1 and show a high capacity retention of 81.3% over 100 cycles. Even at a higher current of 500 mA g-1, the cell still exhibits an outstanding cycle performance, delivering a capacity of 119.1 mAh g-1 with 75.8% capacity retention over 350 cycles. Not only for Li-organic battery, GO separator can also serve as a promising alternative separator in organic electrolyte based redox flow batteries.
