Reducing the Pt content of ORR catalyst used in low temperature fuel cell cathodes continues to be a goal of much fundamental scientific interest and tremendous technical importance. Reducing Pt content using composition, size and shape-controlled bi-metallic nanostructures is a widely popular strategy and has shown much promise. Here, I will share recent work from our group on the development, analysis, and understanding of low-Pt bimetallic ORR electrocatalysts for use in PEM fuel cell cathodes.
