The aim of this talk is to illustrate the strategies for the development of high capacity Si-based electrodes in order to increase the energy density of the current state of art lithium ion batteries by using scalable synthesis techniques while investigating the structure-property-performance relations for different materials. The strategies include: (1) development of porous structures (2) incorporation of core-shell architectures and (3) modification of chemistry of the active materials.
