A review of roadmapping reports and related documents published over the past decade in materials science and engineering has revealed a set of systemic needs centered around data management as well as emerging needs centered around application of artificial intelligence. In this talk, we will present a thorough of review of past roadmapping reports and related documents. We will then show that our proposed model for the Collaboratory would be an effective model for addressing both the systemic and emerging needs. We will show that the Collaboratory concept is comparable to other entities, which have been successful in other domains.
