Electrochemical energy storage has been a very hot topic in the last decades. Many efforts have been pursued in identifying new battery materials and technologies for a broad range of applications such as grid energy storage, vehicle electrification, mobile electronics and so on. This talk will highlight the importance of this interdisciplinary research and emphasize the urgent to identify and address real challenges at relevant scales for battery R&D. Both secondary and primary Li metal batteries will be discussed in this talk.
