Electrolytes innovation is the key to unlock lithium metal anode and silicon anode. A few decades of research have been dedicated to this topic and we have seen many breakthroughs in novel electrolytes in the last few years, where the efficiency of those cells is exceeding 99.7%, even at extremely low temperatures. I will discuss a few new perspectives about how future cryogenic imaging and spectroscopic techniques can accelerate the innovation of novel energy storage materials and architectures for enabling lithium metal and silicon anodes in batteries at wide temperature.
