As the scientific community continues to shift towards open access, it becomes more concrete the future will indeed be “open”. However, there exists numerous nuanced obstacles in this paradigm shift that holds science back from fully being open. This talk will cover how the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is driving efforts to overcome these obstacles to establish an environment where Open Science can flourish. From the perspective of a funder, Open Science practices have the potential to help us reach our vision rapidly and more effectively. How can policy drive this shift towards open science? What can individual stakeholders do to drive and effect change?
